Saturday, December 17th, 2011

There was optimism in the air at Galaxy Cinemas on Friday morning as over 300 business and community leaders gathered for the annual Team Cornwall Year in Review meeting.

“You could feel the energy and the excitement in the air. It’s contagious,” said Colin Yankee, a senior official from the retail company Target. Mr. Yankee was on hand to speak about the company’s new distribution centre currently being built in Cornwall.

The Target distribution centre was one of dozens of private sector investments highlighted by Mark Boileau, Manager of Economic Development, in his annual Year in Review Report.

In addition to hearing about the many economic highlights from the past year, meeting attendees also got an update on the various initiatives and events undertaken by Team Cornwall in 2011.

Some of the special events that were highlighted included the Team Cornwall / Mayor and Council Golf Tournament and the extremely successful CTV Day in Cornwall.

The spotlight was also placed on the individual accomplishments of several Team Cornwall members, including WBC Lightweight Boxing Champ Tony Luis, Come Dine With Me Canada TV host Jamie Carr, soccer star and Pan Am Games Gold medal winner Christina Julien and Premier’s Award Nominee Peter Gault.

“Team Cornwall members are making a difference both at home and around the world,” said Team Cornwall Chair Gilles Latour. “The biggest asset in any community is its people, and that’s what makes Cornwall so great.”

The 2011 Year-in-Review meeting marked a new beginning of sorts for Team Cornwall as the organization used the popular event to unveil a new logo.

Roughly 20 people took advantage of the Year-in-Review to join Team Cornwall. As a result, membership in the ambassadorial group has surpassed 400 – an all-time high.
