2015 Ceremonies

Several graduating high school students will find the next step in their education a little easier thanks to Team Cornwall Bursaries. The bursaries are offered to high school students who have exhibited strong leadership skills and community values during high school.

“These students are about to begin an exciting next stage in their lives,” said Peter Gault, Chair of Team Cornwall. “Team Cornwall feels it is important to recognize exceptional young leaders and we hope that as they continue in their education they will help us in promoting Cornwall as a great community.”

Team Cornwall bursary winners were honoured in two separate ceremonies on Friday.

A gathering was held at the Kawartha Credit Union early in the afternoon to recognize the winners of the Team Cornwall Youth Volunteer Award. This bursary is awarded to students in recognition of their volunteer achievements that have contributed to the well-being of the community. The Youth Volunteer Award is fully funded by Kawartha Credit Union and on hand to present the cheques was Branch Manager Joanne Montford.

The award winners were:

• Philippe Lalonde (La Citadelle)
• Kisa Lanctot (St. Joseph’s)
• Kiran Hashmi (CCVS)

A second ceremony was held later the same day at Pommier Square, where 7 Team Cornwall High School Bursaries were handed out. The High School Bursaries are awarded to students who have exhibited a positive attitude towards their peers, school and community.

The award winners were:

• Hali Flaro King (St. Matthew)
• Emilie Contant (La Citadelle)
• Philippe St-Arnaud (L’Heritage)
• Marissa Forrester (St. Lawrence)
• Sarah Konink (St. Joseph’s)
• Madison McLeod (Holy Trinity)
• Ainsley Hunt (CCVS)

The Team Cornwall bursary program was created several years ago by Team Cornwall member Andre Pommier, who was on hand to give some advice to the students, as well as recognize leaders from area high schools.

“Positive attitude combined with education can open doors wherever life takes you,” said Mr. Pommier. “Cornwall has given you the opportunity to succeed, and we hope that you will return and help grow our city.”

Team Cornwall has established bursaries to acknowledge the important role youth play in shaping the future of our community. Each bursary has its own criteria and selection process. For more information on the Bursary program, please visit the Bursaries page
